Consultation & Hearing Test

1. When should a hearing test be done?

A hearing test should be done by people of all ages, particularly if you experience signs like muffled hearing, frequent misunderstandings in conversations, or ear discomfort. For example, if you often say “pardon?” or feel like others are mumbling, that’s a sign. Regular annual hearing tests are recommended for people over 50, even if they have no symptoms. Newborns, school children, and those exposed to loud environments should also be tested periodically. Early screening can help detect issues before they interfere with learning or communication.

If you think you may have hearing loss, visit a certified audiologist. Audiologists are trained professionals who conduct hearing assessments and provide personalised solutions like hearing aids or auditory training. For example, if your grandparent is missing out on family conversations, an audiologist can help improve their quality of life with proper intervention. Sometimes, they may also refer you to an ENT doctor if a medical condition is suspected. Avoid over-the-counter devices without professional advice.

We offer complimentary initial hearing screenings with every hearing aid purchase. However, for general hearing appointments, service charges are applicable. It’s best to check with your nearest Hearing Plus clinic.

The cost of a hearing test can vary depending on the type of assessment and hearing solution you need. Please note that if you are availing of home visit facilities, hearing test charges may be higher. Contact us directly (Call/WhatsApp: 833-600-1200) to get accurate quotes for specific hearing care solutions.

Common tests include Pure Tone Audiometry, Speech Audiometry, Tympanometry, Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR), and other advanced diagnostic tests when required. Vestibular tests may also be conducted in cases involving balance issues, dizziness, or vertigo. For newborns and individuals who cannot respond to conventional hearing screenings, audiologists may perform specialised tests such as Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) and Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR).

Most hearing tests take about 20–45 minutes, depending on the type and number of assessments performed. However, it’s best to spare enough time while visiting any clinic location because the hearing screening duration may vary depending on your unique hearing needs and challenges.

It’s helpful to bring any previous hearing test reports or medical records (if any). It will help the audiologist assess the underlying cause of your hearing difficulties and evaluate your overall well-being, though it’s not always mandatory.

Yes, children of all ages, including newborns, can be tested. Specialised pediatric hearing assessments are available for accurate evaluation, and these are conducted by highly qualified audiologists.

Yes, we provide home visit facilities for senior citizens (or individuals with mobility issues). One of our experts will provide hearing screenings, hearing aid trial and fitting services right in the comfort of your home. Besides, most clinics are equipped with senior-friendly seating, accessible facilities, and personalised care.

In most cases, preliminary results are shared immediately after the assessment. However, the timeline for the final report depends on the type of test performed. Electrophysiology and vestibular test reports are usually available the next day, as they require detailed analysis, while some other tests may provide same-day results. We recommend checking with the clinic for the exact report delivery timeline.

At Hearing Plus, all hearing diagnostic tests and screenings are conducted by a trained and certified audiologist, who may have a B.A.S.L.P. (Bachelor’s in Speech, Language and Hearing) or M.A.S.L.P. (Master’s in Speech, Language and Hearing) degree, along with a valid audiologist registration given by the RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India). However, an ENT doctor may also be involved if required, particularly for cochlear implant candidates.

No, hearing tests are completely painless and non-invasive. They involve listening to sounds or responding to simple instructions, usually through hand gestures or by pressing a button. For individuals who are unable to respond to sounds, such as newborns or unconscious people, tests like OAE or AABR are conducted, wherein an echo (produced by a healthy cochlea) or brainwave responses are detected.
